Day 1, #MichiganMission All my bags are packed, and of course my Michigan Mittens too! Today I begin my journey North in preparation for my Top Secret Michigan Mission. Will find a nice little Northern Michigan Motel, hopefully with a view of the water for tonight, then tomorrow the real adventure begins.
Sitting at my desk on the 3rd floor of IHill Tower at 31 N. Saginaw Street I have the sweet advantage of smelling all the freshly baked goods as they come out of the oven of the Indian Hill Bakery & Pizza. And let me tell you the aroma is AMAZING! The bakery is situated on the second floor of IHill Tower and the Cafe is just below on the street level with an entrance on Lawrence Street.
The moment you walk through the door you are greeted with the friendliest of smiles by Sammy, Chef Mike’s daughter who takes great pride in working side by side with her Dad to serve the great patrons of this charming new Cafe’.
Chef Mike puts such care and love into each and every mouth watering creation and demands only the highest quality ingredients. The menu includes breakfast and lunch items, hand tossed pizza, served whole or by the slice, artisan breads, pastries, cinnamon rolls, muffins, sandwiches and much more!
Open Monday – Saturday 7 a.m. – 3 p.m. Stop in tomorrow and be sure to tell Sammy and Chef Mike that we sent you!
Also, ask about the Indian Hill Bakery & Pizza’s new customer loyalty program!
You’re gonna LOVE it!!
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This post is in honor of my Mom, Sandra Lee Steinhauser, who we lost to this terrible disease over 22 years ago. She was just 50 years old. I love and miss you so much Mom!
Michigan Mittens was nominated for Best Product Made in Michigan’s by Michigan Vacation & Travel Magazine and WE WON!! Wow! What an honor! We were up against some pretty stiff competitors too! Bells Oberon, Sanders Candy and Yooper Steez. We would like to thank everyone who voted for us and those who have continued to support Michigan Mittens over the last 6 years!
Baby deer, morels and even a 3 legged doe! Oh the amazing things we can enjoy by stepping outside and into nature. Michigan has some of the most beautiful places to explore. There’s an adventure right outside your door. By the way…I captured all three of these photos right outside my own door. Enjoy the many blessings around you!

Michigan Mittens are a fun, functional novelty product made from genuine Polartec® Fleece which is made from Repreve®100 , a recycled fiber that contains recycled materials—including post-industrial waste and used plastic bottles. These recycled fibers are “first quality,” so they look good, and feel soft and comfortable. They’re also certifiably sustainable.
Repreve®100 is made by a U.S.-based company, Unifi, Inc., a global leader in innovative textile solutions. In 2012, global production of Repreve will keep over 900 million plastic bottles from landfills.
Not only does our product help promote our great State it’s also a Green product which has caused our family to become more environmentally responsible. I hope that in some way our mittens can help educate others as to the importance of recycling by putting our product right in/on their hands and showing them just what is possible.
